What you need to know about Fontvieille

Located in the heart of the Alpilles, Fontvieille is an engaging village which has worked to keep its Provencal traditions alive. It is a typical village inhabited by locals and is a good example of a “real”, living village in Provence.

Thanks to Alphonse Daudet, Fontvieille is a symbol of the beauty of ‘La Provence’. In his collection of short stories called Les lettres de mon Moulin the writer described the traditional windmills and the captivating Provence landscapes. As you walk through the rolling hills of Fontvieille, you will discover architectural marvels such as the Montauban castle, the roman aqueduct and the roman milling of Barbegal— an exceptional site, which supplied Arles with its water and flour.
