Monks of the Carthusian Order built the manor house in the eighteenth century. At the time of the French Revolution in 1789 the Domaine was owned by the Knights of the Order of Malta. These origins help to explain the sense of peace and grandeur the buildings extol.

Within fifteen minutes are the cities of Avignon and Orange with their architectural treasures and music and theater festivals. Avignon and its surrounding are known for their world-renowned Michelin-star restaurants. Within half an hour are two golf courses. Within a half to one hour's drive you will find famous sights and ancient villages to explore including the Pont du Gard, Uzès, St. Rèmy de Provence, the hill towns of the Alpilles and the Luberon, Arles, Les Baux, Aix-en-Provence and Isle-sur-la- Sorgues with its 200 antique dealers.

Hi - I didn’t have chance yet to respond directly, but we too loved the chateau. We had such an amazing time there and loved that it was so close to many of the places we wanted to visit while in Provence, while at the same time made it so difficult to want to leave the property. It was heavenly. Your staff were exceptional and truly went beyond our expectations. We would be glad to recommend your chateau to anyone considering a stay in the area. We hope to be able to return and would love to stay with you again.

We can only say good things about Le Chateau d Avignon, actually great things..
The staff that served us made the entire week magical. The real plus for us was the individual air conditioning, the en suite bath rooms, and the absolute clean rooms and daily service, 5 stars

If we ever pass that way again, we would not hesitate to stay there again!!!

City of history and city of theater, the fortified city of Avignon will not leave you indifferent. Avignon's architecture is marked by papal history.

Avignon - Palace of the Popes

Going through any of the seven doors of the superbly preserved walls one discovers the city of the Popes. The Palace of the Popes built in the 14th century overlooks a lively square.

Nearby are the museums the Petit Palais and Palais du Roure, not too far away stands the famous Pont d'Avignon.

Avignon : Square and ramparts

Take your time wandering about the streets of Avignon. The ancient streets, the courtyards of the private mansions, the renovated facades will all charm you!

One of the most elegant streets is the rue Joseph Vernet, adjacent to the Calvet museum and the Requien Museum.

Avignon Museum

Don't miss the Antiquaire quarter, the Place de l'Horloge or the Chemin de Ronde which will take you to the Rocher des Doms.

From the top of the ramparts you can understand why the site was chosen for a fort: Avignon stands high above the immense plains of the Rhône River and is the strategic point of the whole valley.

Avignon - Cathedral
