We were very pleased with La Colline. It is simple, but very charming, lovingly decorated and a beautiful and serene place--exactly what we were hoping for. There are many short trips to be made to fun, interesting places, but we found ourselves wanting to spend each afternoon at the villa. It is authentic Provence and a perfect size for us and our adult children, who also really enjoyed it. Each morning, drinking coffee, watching the sun come up and enjoying the porch and its spectacular view was heavenly. It is incredibly peaceful; the only thing we heard was distant sheep, horses and the breeze rustling the trees.

Cecile and Pierre are warm hosts; not only were they responsive to our every need but they even invited to their home for an aperitif. Having gotten to know them is a special memory for us. We hope others will stay at La Colline and enjoy all that it has to offer.

I loved this house so much. The location was perfect. The views were amazing. 5 stars
I would move in if I could. Everything was perfect except for the musty odor downstairs where the 2 bedrooms were. It was very strong. It really needs a dehumidifier or to be aired out It helped when we left the door and windows open. It something that should be addressed.
Otherwise, it was absolutely perfect.
I can't say enough good things about Only Provence. I will likely use this rental agency again.

The owners were very responsive to our questions and any problems we had at the villa. The internet went out several times during our stay and they were quick to stop by and fix. Also very responsive to the wasp problem around the pool. Loved the wine and pastry that they left for us and they also gave a thorough tour of the villa. We would rent a different villa for the next time. It just wasn't our personal taste.

Hi John. We had a lovely time at La Colline. It was as picturesque as portrayed in the photos on-line. I had been concerned about it's location, but it turned out to be well situated in terms of radiating to all the towns we wanted to visit. Wish there were a few more restaurants/shops nearby, but it was so nice to be in a quiet, relaxed atmosphere, far from tourists. And we enjoyed our evenings at home, cooking and relaxing.

Chef Sophie was amazing. Very discreet, professional and her food was extraordinary. Only complaint - there was way too much and we couldn't eat it all! It was a nice treat and would highly recommend it.

We found everything to be clean and well kept. And the owner was extremely kind and responsive. We did have an issue with a foul smell outside and as soon as we reported it, she came (I think with her son?) and found it to be a dead rodent. It was removed immediately and all was good. She checked in with us regularly, but not at all in an intrusive manner.

Would highly recommend the villa to others. A delightful week.

Was also very pleased with Only Provence. Everything was handled very professionally. Not a single criticism.

Our experience at La Colline was wonderful. The house was lovely and charming, the grounds were spectacular and the owners were delightful. The antiques and art throughout the house and grounds were fabulous...particularly Cecelia's bronze sculptures. The bottle of wine and fresh pastries for our arrival was a nice gesture and warm welcome. The owners were very responsive to our requests and needs…and we loved their cat! We were totally charmed and we would definitely recommend La Colline to our friends!!!

A couple of things that might be useful information for future guests:
There was no place to buy groceries in the village. If we had known that, we would have made some purchases on the way. Perhaps a list of the closest markets would have been helpful. The only thing purchasable in Vernegues was bread!

A list of local restaurants in the nearby villages would be good. We got some recommendations from the owners. We loved La Repaire…ate there three times.
Directions to getting there – we were coming from Nice…and couldn’t make the directions you provided to the house work for us. We were totally lost once we got to Vernegues. We ended up calling the owner to meet us in town...and you were right...a GPS was more than helpful...it was an absolute necessity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Testimonial for La Colline
My extended family and I had a wonderful week in this charming house. The owners greeted us with local gifts of brioche and wine and were attentive to our needs. Built into a rock, the house is filled with antiques yet has a modern kitchen and bathrooms. The bedrooms are large and airy and the outdoor space is lovely. The pool is on the small side and is in partial shade, but was fine for my family of 6.

Only Provence was responsive to our questions and provided the opportunity for the best experience we have had in years—a cooking lesson and dinner by Chef Ronald Guillaume. Whatever you do, don’t miss it!

What did you like about your experience?
The owners were wonderful. We were late arriving and were greeted by Cecile with local wine and pastries. We found the house so enchanting that we emailed her several times to ask where to shop for similar antiques; she was always helpful and came to say goodbye when we left.

The lesson/dinner with Chef Ronald was the best experience of our 3-country, 2 1/2 week trip! Although it seems like a lot of money initially, it was worth every penny and is something we will never forget.

Areas for improvement:
The pool gets a lot of shade; I would suggest cutting back some of the trees. Also there were a lot of wasps around the pool, but I don’t know if anything can be done about that.
Matching pool towels would be a nice touch.

Would you recommend La Colline, Only Provence, Chefs or Tours to friends/ family and why/ why not?
Absolutely. There were no problems and the house itself is well-situated and charming.

We had a wonderful time, the villa and amenities were terrific.

Definitely for those wanting a quiet retreat which suited us as we had a our baby daughter with us.
Not for those wanting more action.
A pleasant and very private and quiet location.
The owners were absolutely delightful.

Areas for improvement:

Possibly install some screens on the doors downstairs to prevent flies from entering – particularly the Kitchen.

I would recommend to those looking for a quiet and relaxed holiday – as opposed to those wanting to be based within a more vibrant town with access to restaurants/cafes etc.

What did you like about your experience?
The villa was fabulous and working with Only Provence was a breeze. The villa was very well appointed and in a wonderful location to access many of the great towns and markets in in-land Provence. We will be in touch to book again in the future. Thank you for everything.

Areas for improvement:
I really can’t think of any.

I would definitely recommend and Chef Sophie to anyone interested in travelling to Provence.

La Colline is located only a short walk away from the preserved ancient village of Vernègues, where on its winding paths one stumbles upon an 8th century necropolis and remains from Gallo-Roman times. For shops, cafés, bakeries, daily outdoor markets etc. It is only a few minutes drive to several quaint Provençal villages (Lambesc, Alleins, Pellissane, Mallemort) nearby. It's a haven for outdoor lovers, especially for those who love to walk, hike, and cycle.

Getting here:
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseilles International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport, then connect directly to the TGV (high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV (3 hours direct) and rent a car. You could plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon to Gare de Lyon, and getting a cab to your hotel in the city.
