Absolutely loved the property. Such a peaceful location but just minutes from the village. The house was well set up - inside and outside. Extremely comfortable.
Would you recommend Bastide de Gigondas, Only Provence, Chefs or Tours? Why or why not?
Yes. Property and Company both good. Didn’t use the chefs or tours which seemed very expensive.

Our visit to Bastide de Gigondas was everything we had hoped for and more. The villa is stunning, very comfortable and the location looking across the Rhone valley is wonderful. We had lovely sunsets, many enjoyed from the pool terrace.
We wanted a location where we could feel like we were living in a village, not just being tourists, and where we could explore the best that Provence has to offer. Bastide de Gigondas fulfilled this in every way. It was lovely to be able to walk down (the many steps) to the village to enjoy a meal, or drive to one of the nearby villages to sample wine and see the sights.

I can't think of anything to improve
Would you recommend Bastide de Gigondas and Only Provence?
Absolutely I would recommend the villa and Only Provence. The villa was fantastic, and the owner was delightful, helping us in his limited English to make the most of the location and even dropping in a couple of complimentary bottles of his own wine to enjoy. The booking process through Only Provence was straightforward and the correspondence we received was great.
What star rating would you give Bastide de Gigondas? Definitely a 5

I was nervous about booking this type of accommodation online for a group of friends, mainly because it was a sizable amount of money we were sending sight unseen, however with each step of the booking process with Only Provence I felt more and more confident. The quick responses and detailed information helped tremendously. If the villa we stayed in is indicative, the properties on offer are exceptional and are as described on the website. I would definitely use Only Provence again in the future.
I just want to thank all involved at Only Provence for everything. The villa stay had been planned for three years to celebrate a significant birthday milestone for several of us, so we were hoping for something exceptional, and the villa delivered. We now have some wonderful memories to share and hopefully we will have a chance to go back to Provence another time.
Everything exceeded my expectations.
The house was great and the location perfect for what the group needed. The billing, directions, description, info material, etc were all helpful.
No criticisms or suggestions
If our group gets together next year, we will be calling you
Thanks for everything

Gigondas, this little village with its great name is situated in Upper Vaucluse at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail.
This little village with only 700 inhabitants is an absolutely essential stop for lovers of this world renowned vintage. In Roman times the village was called "Jocunditas" which means joy or rejoicing... its famous vintage was already appreciated in those days.
Gigondas - Calade
The region turned to single crop farming - wine-growing - following the great frosts of 1929 and 1956 which destroyed the ancient olive trees.
The Gigondas "appellation d'origine" was requested as early as 1924, but was not granted until 1971.
Gigondas - Street
Vineyards here cover an area of 12 km² and more than five million bottles are put on the market each year. These wines are powerful and generous, robust and well-balanced.
Gigondas is nicely located at the foot of a hill, nestling beneath its church which dominates all the Gigondas vineyards. The church square offers a superb panoramic view. The Dentelles de Montmirail situated in the Gigondas area act as a backdrop to the village and offer numerous walks.
Gigondas - Street
Arriving in Gigondas via the secondary road that runs through the lower part of the village you will come across a succession of cafés and cellars leading up to the Place Gabriel Andéol where the mairie and the winegrowers cooperative are located.
Leave your car here and take the time to discover this village that is continuously being restored, developed and enhanced.
Walk up through the pretty streets and alleyways lined with stonework houses to reach Ste Catherine's parish church with its beautiful 14th century facade. On the way you will be able to admire the fine view that you have of the region and which extends right to the Cevennes.
Gigondas - Fountain
Next to the church you will be able to visit the Hospices, via a stairway-like trail lined with 21 monumental sculptures, the work of contemporary artists. These buildings were erected by a religious brotherhood in 1678 to care for poor people and children.
Following the revolution, in 1800, they became a Hospice. They were then left unused for the next 2 centuries.
It was not until 1982 that these ruins started to come to life again and little by little the Hospice was restored thanks to the association "Gigondas d’hier et d’aujourd’hui", the mayor, the local winegrowers and numerous voluntary efforts. Today on the ground floor you will find wine cellars offering wine tasting installed by the winegrowers' association, and upstairs a contemporary art exhibition.
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseilles International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV(high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV(3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.
