The house is beautiful! More than beautiful. My guests and I thought it fulfilled our fantasies of exactly what a villa in Provence should be-it felt like we were on a movie set. Everyone agreed that the decor was lovely, understated and tasteful, and in nice condition. I especially loved the wooden ceiling beams and the old tile floors. It was charming, while having new, very attractive and functional bathrooms and kitchen. And it was very clean. That was important to us. The grounds of the villa were peaceful and so pretty, the pool was always clean and we used it a lot. We ate many meals outside on the lovely patio. The air conditioning and all appliances (except the clothes dryer that broke during the last days of our rental) worked well. Roger the house manager was very helpful and pleasant, he brought in our initial grocery order as requested, answered our questions, and looked after us with good humor for our whole time. He managed to locate and mail to me a bag of jewelry that one of my guests had forgotten. We really appreciated his efforts to make our stay pleasant.
The central location of the house was perfect for us, we toured many of the towns in the area, St Remy, Arles, into the Luberon, and Gordes. While the house is is within walking distance of Eygalieres, we found the narrow roads to be far too dangerous to walk along, because of speeding vehicles.
Areas for improvement:
The bedding is not accurately reflected in the house's photos on the Only Provence website. (This has been fixed) Instead of having 2 twin beds as advertised, several rooms had one king bed. Bedding configuration is really important information to provide accurately, because while most unmarried and unrelated people may be willing to share a bedroom, they do not care to share a bed with someone else. I had checked this detail several times before the trip to make sure all my guests would have their own separate bed, and had received assurances that they would. Upon arrival, it was very upsetting to learn that we would have to rearrange and try to manage without the number of beds we expected. A number of my guests were unhappy with their sleeping arrangements.
Also, it would be nice if more bath towels were provided.
Would you recommend Mas des Pivoines, Only Provence, Chefs or Tours? Why or why not?
Defintiely, I would recommend Only Provence and plan to use their services again. The chef that Only Provence recommended (Nadeège) prepared the best meal that we had the whole time in Provence (and we ate at a number of highly recommended restaurants in the area.) It was a great finale to our week in Provence. I also received great assistance with booking a rental car, and making arrangements for taxi service.
What star rating would you give Mas des Pivoines? 4.5
What star rating would you give Only Provence? 4
What star rating would you give Chefs/ Tours you experienced? 5
I found all the people I dealt with at Only Provence to be very knowledgeable about Provence, prompt in responding to my queries, and helpful. They made planning my visit much easier than I would have imagined, and really contributed to everyone in my party enjoying the trip.
We learned so much from the very detailed and helpful book at the house.

Just minutes from the charming and sophisticated village of Eygalières, (a favorite hideaway for wealthy Parisians) which hosts a number of good restaurants including the Michelin starred "Chez Bru". Find all of the charm and amenities in the village with butcher, baker, café/ bar and weekly market. The area surrounding the village provides one of the most dramatic landscapes in Provençe with the famed Alpilles (hills) adorning the view – an area made famous by the works of Vincent Van Gogh.
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseilles International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV(high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV(3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.
