My family and I had the most amazing and memorable time staying at the Bastide de Trevallon. We were so pleasantly surprised to see the property in-person. While the online pictures are very nice, they really do not do the diversity of the location and beauty of the property justice. It is located in a large private valley, tucked safely away from the main road and complete with its own small olive grove, pool, tennis court, playground, ping pong table, sandpit play area and various fountains. The grounds and the house were impeccably kept by the house manager, who was also extremely attentive and responsive to any issue we had. As another reviewer mentioned, though, he doesn't speak much English, but is very friendly and found a way to communicate with those of us lacking in French.
We were very happy to find that the main, larger house, in addition to being very clean and well decorated, was very kid friendly. There are locking gates near stairs to prevent falls, and grates in fountains to protect those danger areas. The pool is completely separate from the house and gated, so there was relief in not worrying about the little ones wandering to the pool and falling into danger. There were also lots of toys and crafts left behind in the common areas for all to enjoy (we left some behind as well). Several small tables and chairs were perfect for eating and crafts, ensuring the children didn't damage any of the beautiful furniture around. A wonderful sand pit was situated by the main dining area, which kept the little ones well occupied while the adults relaxed and chatted. There is also a very nice play ground area and a separate swing set that all the kids enjoyed very much. The kids never wanted to leave the house!
St Remy, which was so charming, was a quick 5 min car ride or 35 min bike ride away. The market there is a must see.
How would we rate Trevallon? 5 stars It exceeded our expectations.
How would we rate Only Provence? 5 stars
OP was very well organized to help us with all aspects of our vacation planning and assisted to make a dream vacation come true. They were so helpful and responsive in setting up bike rentals, private wine tour, truffle hunt and a Chef. We chose Chef Marie to come to cook a meal one night. She was so sweet and talented - a definite highlight of our time in Provence. While there, the ground team also helped us make dinner reservations at great restaurant. We felt very well taken care of!
Thanks again!! Be well!!
We enjoyed every minute of our stay at Bastide de Trevallon. The beautiful surroundings, and the location near the beautiful St. Remy was exceptional. Everyone in our family thought that our time in Provence was our most memorable vacation. The Chefs were personable and incredibly talented. Their food was outstanding. We will always treasure our time in that beautiful, serene place. We couldn’t have asked for lovelier area. The pool was beautiful, and the tennis court perfectly kept.
Areas for improvement:
The only problem with Bastide de Trevallon was that the kitchen was too small to accommodate the cooking class comfortably. It was a little tight for the Chef’s food preparation. However, all our meals were exceptional.
Our overall experience was fantastic. We loved the place very much. The hospitality was amazing. I would definitely recommend this property to my family and friends and would definitely come again when I visit this region.
Very attractive spot, well appointed, well located, nice local village, good distances from wonderful spots such as Les Baux, St Remy, Uzes, Arles, Pont du Gard. Tennis court and pool in very good condition. All around a particularly happy time had by all.
What did you like about your experience?
Areas for improvement:
The only somewhat negative comment was that the power supply at the Bastide is a bit fragile. We lost it when the first storm came through and a couple of times the power was subsequently cut for periods of time.
M. Favier was a good man and fully responsive but did not speak English. We were ok but many may not be. If I were the owner, I would redo the exterior pictures. The land and the bastide are much more attractive than they appear in the existing photos. The walks from the villa were great.
I would recommend the Bastide, Only Provence and Chef Gerald. Chef Gerald was just about worth the money but a service where the food was served on site would have been preferable. The selection on the Only Provence website is strong as is the site’s layout. The land is quite magical and much better than we would have imagined.
What star rating would you give Bastide de Trevallon? (1 is lowest and 5 is the highest) 5. The photos , though good, did not do the place justice.
What star rating would you give Only Provence? 4
What star rating would you give Chefs/ Tours you experienced? 3

Saint Etienne du Grès is a small, picturesque village nestling at the foot of the Alpilles, a few minutes frome Saint Rémy de Provence, and Tarascon and very close to Arles.
The municipality was created relatively recently, having formed part of Tarascon until 1935. This probably explains why, unlike most villages in Provence, it doesn’t possess a typical village square with the town hall, the church, the fountain, the bakery and the bistro. St Etienne is not an old village, but more a dormitory village - most of its inhabitants work in Arles, Tarascon ou St Rémy.
They return to St Etienne for peace and quiet and magnificent countryside only a short distance from the town. In the eastern part of the village (on the way to St Rémy) there are beautiful, old country-style houses and farms which have been carefully restored. There are also attractive houses and private mansions surrounded by elegant landscaped gardens, looking as though they come straight out of a glossy magazine. The western part of the village is made up of more modern, simple houses with pretty, well-kept little gardens.
There are superb opportunities for rambling in the countryside around the village. The hills, covered with sweet-scented pine trees, beckon with the promise of a pleasant few hours in the midst of beautiful greenery. On top of the hill to the east of the village you will find the chapel of Notre Dame du Château. It dates from the 11th century and is the oldest in the region. Visiting the chapel provides an excellent opportunity for a beautiful walk and once you get there you’ll be overwhelmed by its tranquillity and the serene, restful atmosphere of the spot. During the walk you will enjoy beautiful views of Tarascon, Arles and Châteaurenard.
Don’t miss the fruit and vegetable market which takes place every afternoon apart from Sunday. Market gardeners, farmers and shoppers, as well as tourists and walkers, gather for this colourful spectacle, rich in tastes and fragrances, where the accents are fruity too.
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseilles International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV(high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV(3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.
