Overlooking a beautiful valley of famous Côtes du Rhône vineyards and olive groves, Mas de Costebelle is a newly built traditional home, set atop of the hillside. Vast and elegant, the house offers all the comfort one would dream of finding here in Provence with air conditioning throughout, large open spaces, bright windows with fabulous views, brand new furniture and kitchen equipment – all walking distance to the village.
Each of the six bedrooms are quite spacious ranging from 24 to 48 sqm – with endless views and comfortable King size beds. The expansive living space on the ground floor opens onto many different terraces with views and varying atmospheres dependent upon the time of the day. The sunsets are just wonderful here, as is the unobstructed view of the valley and the medieval village of Rasteau.
The infinity swimming pool lies below the main terrace and seems to be carved into the hillside with elegant stone walls. This property is a true paradise for extended families, as the home is quite child-friendly, despite only for an open staircase. Large groups of adults traveling together to discover the wonders of Provence will find equal enjoyment of the spaces and chic design.
At this villa, you are in the heart of the wine region (Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Séguret, Cairanne, Sablet, Châteauneuf du Pape) and very close to the famous Mont Ventoux mountain. Vaison la Romaine, Orange, and Avignon are famous historical cities located less than half an hour from the property as well. Small pets welcome – please inquire.
Séguret is located in the northern part of the Vaucluse, north of the Dentelles de Montmirail and west of Mont Ventoux. The village lies at the foot of a hill topped by the ruins of its feudal chateau. Séguret is one of the official "most beautiful villages in France", and thoroughly deserves this distinction. As soon as you arrive, you will be bowled over by the charm of this village, with its typical Provencal atmospherer and medieval character. You will literally find yourself in the setting for a crib, a decor naturally formed by the houses of the village. Your stroll through the streets of the village, between the grey steeply sloping lanes and noble facades, will enable you to admire historical treasures at each step: the Reynier gate, the 14th century belfry with its single needle, the beautiful 10th century Saint-Denis church, the Rue des Poternes lined with ancient houses, the Huguenots' gate, which still has its two ironbound wooden shutters, etc., etc. It's a very long list. From the orientation table in the church square, and the Cornice of the ramparts, under the Barri, you will have a very broad view of the landscape surrounding the village; in particular its neighbour Sablet, which stands out in the middle of the plain. Séguret is not just a fine village, it also has land and people who produce an excellent "appellation controlee" wine: Côtes du Rhône Séguret. They are successfully continuing a wine-making tradition dating back several centuries. This vineyard covering 8 kms changed hands and owners many times throughout history, until the 12th century. The village wine-makers then decided to take control of their destiny and made Séguret a free district so that they could manage their own affairs. You can't visit Séguret without paying a visit to the Roaix-Séguret wine cellar (co-operative) or one of the village's vineyards. This listed picturesque site, full of charm, attracts artists and visitors from all over the world, who sometimes become permanent residents. Everything here is beautiful, everthing is well maintained, everthing has been tastefully restored... the only down side (the ransom of success) is the crowds of visitors in the tourist season...!
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseille International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV (high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV (3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Paris Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.
