Situated within walking distance from the historic village of Entraigues sur la Sorgue, the Mas de la Sorgue embodies both history and contemporary design. It is ideally located at the foot of Mont Ventoux, on the Wine Route at the gates of the Luberon, the Alpilles, the Gorges de l ‘Ardèche, the Camargue, only 20 minutes from Avignon TGV train station. Surrounded by fields, by the Sorgue, you can enjoy the charm and calm of Provence. A pretty path along the Sorgue will take you, within 15 minutes walk, to an excellent bakery, butcher, pharmacy and the village greengrocer.
Guests are welcomed to this beautifully renovated farmhouse with all of the modern comforts. The house has 4 bedrooms with air conditioned and all have private en-suite bathroom. It can accommodate up to 8 adults and 3 children. The living areas are spacious and flooded with light, with numerous sitting spaces to read, chat, or share a nice bottle of the region’s famous wines. The vast kitchen and dining room opens widely onto the large terrace and the swimming pool area, which offers the benefit of flat grassy areas on each side, ideal for children to play and adults to relax.
Mas de la Sorgue is a wonderful property for those who wish to relax, to cycle or hike the surrounding countryside, or to explore the wonders of Provence, route des vins (Châteauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueras, etc), and many great nearby restaurants. The property is located only 15 minutes from Avignon city center. Luberon, Alpilles and famous historical cities such as Arles, Nîmes, Orange, can be explored in less than a one-hour drive.
The old village of Entraigues sits on a small hill, around its church. Its shops and services tend to be found on the lower land which slopes down to the River Sorgue which borders the village. On Rue de la Tour you can visit Saint Pierre's church which can be found amongst the village housesand was built in 1840 on the foundations of the former Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs church. Opposite the church is the Templiers tower, a relic from the first feudal chateau. The red brick town hall, which is more like a railway station is surrounded by the village shops. Further on along the road which leads to Bédarrides, a small bridge crosses the Sorgue. Here in summer you can "freshen up" on the banks of the river, a real pleasure!
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseille International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV (high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV (3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Paris Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.
