At the top of the village near to main parking lot you can find access to the Ochre Trails “Sentiers des Ocres” two trails : one short and one longer, both taking you through the ochre lands on a 30 or 60 minutes walk.
The village is full of lovely little boutiques, cafes, restaurants and art galleries.
Eglise Saint Michel: This charming church has a 19th-century clock tower with bells and is a lovely spot to sit down and take in the sights and sounds of Roussillon.
The “Conservatoire des Ocres et des Pigments Appliques” is situated in an old ochre factory and is a great stop to learn about the history of this magnificent village.
Don’t miss the Roussillon Weekly Market on Thursday mornings. While it isn’t the largest market in the region, you can find a wonderful range of local specialties.
Le Piquebaure – A Michelin acclaimed little restaurant in the city center of Roussillon with amazing food, friendly and personable service.
David – Le Clos de la Glycine – Also Michelin acclaimed, this well-known restaurant offers Wonderful food with amazing views of the village of Roussillon.
Most wineries are closed on Sundays and during lunch hours.
The best time to visit Roussillon is late spring (May–June) and early autumn (September–October), when Provence feels its most inviting. During these months, the ochre cliffs glow under soft sunlight, the village lanes are lively without being crowded, and the weather is comfortably warm for wandering the Sentier des Ocres or enjoying long terrace lunches.
If you enjoy vibrant festivals and don’t mind the heat, July and August offer a bustling peak season, but be prepared for higher prices and fuller streets. Winter, on the other hand, is quiet and peaceful, with crisp air and wide-open landscapes, perfect for those seeking solitude and slower travel.
