Under 10 minutes by car from the glorious village of Gordes, yet surrounded by complete calm, Mas Margaux is a sanctuary of Provençal elegance. Nestled on one hectare of private grounds in the heart of the Luberon, this estate offers a rare balance of natural beauty and refined comfort.
The property unfolds around a grand stone-built main house and a beautifully restored annex, together accommodating up to twelve guests across six en-suite, air-conditioned bedrooms. The interiors are designed in harmony with their surroundings — a magnificent living room and fully equipped kitchen open onto terraces bathed in southern light. Each space reflects the understated sophistication of Provence: warm, natural materials complemented by modern amenities such as high-speed fibre WiFi and a fully equipped fitness room.
Outside, a heated swimming pool offers breathtaking views of the distant Luberon peaks and even the village of Gordes. A generous dining terrace with a summer kitchen and shaded lounge invites long, unhurried meals in the open air. The estate also includes a private multisport court, pétanque terrain, and scenic walking trails that wind gently from the property — a peaceful rhythm of nature that defines the estate’s unique atmosphere.
Both secluded and perfectly situated, Mas Margaux allows guests to enjoy the best of Provence: the quiet of the countryside, the authenticity of stone and light, and the proximity of one of France’s most iconic villages. It is a home that captures the very soul of the region — elegant, timeless, and profoundly serene.
Standing on the edge of the plateau of Vaucluse, Gordes is one of the "in" villages of Luberon where many movies stars and artists have made their home. Its houses of white and gray stone rise up in a spiral around the rock where the village is set. At the very top is the church and the castle which face out onto the hills of the Luberon. Due to its privileged position, its exceptional charm and its typical architecture, Gordes has been listed as "one of the most beautiful villages of France". While strolling around the tiny streets which climb up between the tall houses, you will discover here and there beautiful old doorways, arcades and walls of flat stone perfectly restored, and on the other side, there is the panorama of the valley and mountains of Luberon. Once at the top of Gordes, you can see the fortified castle enclosing the city hall and the Pol Mara museum, (Flemish contemporary painter). The odd village of the "borie" is intriguing. Bories are little round huts built in stone and were at one time used by shepherds or hunters. But whatever you do, you must not miss the fabulous Abbey of Senanque hidden in the green valley. Cistercian monks still live there producing honey, lavender essence, and liqueurs. The whole twelfth century ediface is open for visits. Gordes is without a doubt worth seeing. The village has a world wide reputation due to its famous inhabitants, and Peter Mayle 's book A Year in Provence certainly helped.
The easiest way to get to Inland Provence from the US is to fly to Marseille International Airport (MRS). If you would like to see Paris, fly to Charles de Gaulle Airport then connect directly to the TGV (high speed train) from CDG TGV2 to Avignon TGV (3 hours direct) and rent a car. You would plan to see Paris on the way back, taking the TGV from Avignon TGV to Paris Gare de Lyon, getting a cab to your hotel in the city.
