Hiking & Biking

Provence rewards those who get outside.

Landscapes that Inspired Van Gogh and Cézanne

Hike the ochre trails of the Luberon as the morning sun warms the garrigue and the scent of wild thyme rises underfoot. Cycle quiet back roads past stone farmhouses, chapel ruins, and endless rows of vines.

Provence doesn’t reveal itself from a car window. It rewards those who slow down—who take the trail instead of the highway, who stop for a café crème in a village square, who let a long lunch stretch into the afternoon. Out here, the pace is the point.

Hiking in Provence

Provence offers exceptional hiking across two distinct landscapes: the rounded green hills and perched villages of the Luberon, and the dramatic white limestone peaks of the Alpilles. Both regions are crisscrossed with well-marked trails ranging from easy morning strolls to challenging full-day routes.

When to Hike

July and August bring intense heat—if you’re visiting in summer, start early and finish by late morning. The best hiking weather is usually during the months of spring, fall, and winter.

Luberon Hiking

Trails wind through cedar forests, past ancient stone bories, along cliff edges with sweeping valley views, and through the famous ochre quarries of Roussillon and Rustrel.

Alpilles Hiking

More rugged terrain with panoramic views from rocky ridgelines. Hike to the ruins of Les Baux, through Van Gogh’s landscapes near Saint-Rémy, or into the quiet heart of the range.

Biking & Cycling in Provence

From leisurely rides to serious road cycling, Provence delivers. Quiet roads connect vineyards and hilltop villages, dedicated bike paths follow old railway lines, and challenging climbs reward with views.

Bike Delivery

Skip the hassle of transport—have bikes delivered directly to your door. Choose from over 220 bikes including hybrids, mountain bikes, tandems, children’s bikes, and top-of-the-line road bikes.

E-Bike Rentals

Cover more ground with less effort—e-bikes make the rolling hills of Provence accessible to everyone and extend your range for full-day explorations.

Cycling Tours

The historic city of Avignon makes an excellent base for cycling, with scenic routes radiating into the surrounding countryside. Whether you’re a serious cyclist or out for a relaxed spin, the flat terrain near the Rhône offers easy riding.
