For close to twenty years, we have done one thing: arrange villa holidays across Provence. In that time we have come to know our houses in person, the owners by name, and stand behind the experiences we arrnage.
Booking a villa online has never been easier, which is precisely the difficulty. A listing site presents thousands of properties, a set of photographs, and a checkout button, and asks you to commit several thousand euros to a house you have never seen, offered by a company with no history with the property and none with you. For a weekend flat, the risk is small. For a family holiday, perhaps a multigenerational one celebrating a milestone moment, it is not.
We built Only Provence on a different premise: that a villa holiday of this kind is best arranged by people who have done it for years and know the collection intimately. Our story begins with a single farmhouse owned by the Founders of Only Provence, and our reputation rests on a wall of industry awards and reviews written after real holidays. The humble roots of Only Provence
We began not as a large villa company, but with a single farmhouse: Mas de Gancel, a traditional Provençal property lovingly renovated by Only Provence’s founders, John and Lydia Dean. What started as one restored home and a passion for sharing the beauty of Provence grew, over the years, into one of the region’s most respected luxury villa companies.
In the early years, John and Lydia welcomed guests personally, preparing the homes, cleaning the properties themselves, and building relationships owner by owner, guest by guest. That hands-on approach shaped the philosophy that still defines Only Provence today: genuine hospitality, deep local knowledge, attention to detail, and an understanding that what you remember most is not only the property itself, but the feeling you experience while staying there.
Over time, we grew into a curated collection of more than 200 personally vetted luxury villas and châteaux across the Alpilles and the Luberon. Yet despite that growth, we remain anchored in the same family values we were founded on: long-term relationships, authenticity, warmth, trust, and a deep respect for the Provençal lifestyle. A home you book with Only Provence comes with all of that behind it. A listing site, however large, could never.
Every villa, vetted in person
Every property in our collection has been visited and assessed by one of us: the rooms seen, the pool inspected, the owners or house managers met. A listing site, by contrast, publishes what an owner chooses to upload: the photographs they select, the description they write, the details they include or omit. The difference shows in the moments that matter, when the villa you arrive at matches the one you viewed in the listing, at the standard we promised. Vetting is not a filter we apply to listings. It is one of us standing behind the house before a single guest is booked into it.

The homes that make a holiday are seldom listed at all
Many of the villas that make a holiday memorable are never found on a listing site at all. Their owners do not advertise them to the open market; they entrust them to a small number of people with whom they have a relationship built over years.
We hold those relationships, many of them nearly as old as we are, which is why our collection includes homes that simply do not appear on a public platform: private estates, family bastides, working vineyards.
