Only Provence is an award-winning villa rental company with a collection of more than 200 luxury villas and châteaux throughout the Luberon and Alpilles. Combining deep local expertise with personalized service, we craft exceptional journeys tailored for discerning travelers.
For a stay in Provence, a hotel suits short visits and solo or couple travel where service is the priority. An Airbnb or platform listing suits budget-led trips where the traveller is prepared to do the vetting and most of the work. A private villa arranged through a specialist suits elevated travel, families, and group stays where space, privacy, and a verified property matter more than a nightly rate. The difference is not the building. The difference is who has stood inside it.
A hotel is a perfect choice when the stay is short and the party is small. Rooms are serviced daily, breakfast is handled, and a member of staff is available at any hour. For one or two nights in Avignon, Aix-en-Provence, or Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a hotel removes every logistical question from the trip.
The limits appear as the group grows. Four rooms across two floors is not the same as one house. Meals become reservations. Evenings become a decision about where everyone will sit. Families with young children and older relatives tend to discover this on the second day.
A platform listing does well on price and on choice. For two people who want a village house for a long weekend, and who are content to research the property themselves, it is an efficient route.
The trade is that verification sits with the traveller. The photographs are supplied by the owner. The reviews describe other people’s expectations, not yours. Nobody from the platform has walked the property, tested the water pressure, or confirmed that the pool is heated in May rather than in July. If the house is not as described on a Saturday afternoon in August, the recourse is a dispute form.
There is also a regulatory dimension that changed this year. Under the Loi Le Meur, every furnished tourist rental in France must be declared through a national registration service, a requirement that took effect on 20 May 2026. The registration number issued by the commune must appear on the property’s listing wherever it is published. Listings that are not compliant are being removed. A property that disappears three weeks before departure is not a hypothetical risk in the current market.
A private villa gives a group a single address for the week. The house, the grounds, the terrace, and the pool belong to the party for the duration of the stay. Meals happen where people already are. Children are within sight. Nobody negotiates a breakfast schedule.
In the Luberon and the Alpilles this matters more than in most regions, because the properties themselves are the reason people come: stone mas surrounded by cypress and olive, hillside houses above vineyards, châteaux with formal gardens. The Only Provence collection holds more than 200 properties, each with a minimum of three bedrooms, alongside three châteaux — Château de Sannes, Château Avignon, and Château Rhône.
Space is the obvious benefit. Certainty is the one people notice afterwards.
A villa specialist is a named person who has seen the property, knows the owner, and is accountable for the stay. A platform is a search interface. The distinction becomes concrete in five places.
Vetting and verification. Every property in our collection has been visited before it is offered on our site. Properties that are misrepresented, poorly maintained, or unsuited to the way guests actually use them do not enter the collection.
Matching. A specialist reads the group, not the filter. Fourteen people across three generations, two of whom cannot manage stairs, arriving in late September, is not a query that a search box or artificial intelligence answers well. It is a question an actual person, an expert, answers well.
Owner relationships. Availability is confirmed directly with the owner or their empowered managers. Pricing is individual to the property and the dates. The finest houses in Provence are rarely listed openly on the larger platforms; they are known, kept, and entrusted through relationships built across years.
The ground. A local team is present during the stay. When a boiler fails or a flight is delayed, the response comes from people who know the house and can reach it.
Everything around the villa. Private chefs, wine tastings, guided walks, transfers, and family celebrations are coordinated in advance with assistance from the concierge team and local partners, so that the week has a shape before the first bag is unpacked.
Browse the villa collection to see what is available for your dates and your group. Speak with a Villa Rental Specialist, who will match the property to the party rather than the filter.
Summer weeks in the Luberon and the Alpilles are held early. Availability for the coming season is limited.
Not usually, once the group reaches six people or more. A villa is priced as a single property for the week rather than per room per night. Four hotel rooms for seven nights, plus meals taken in restaurants, frequently exceeds the cost of a villa with a private chef engaged for two or three evenings.
An agency vets the properties it offers and takes responsibility for the stay. Airbnb is a marketplace that connects guests with hosts and verifies neither the property nor the accuracy of its description. With an agency, a named specialist has visited the house and knows the owner. With a platform, the traveller performs that work.
Six to twelve months for July and August. The most requested properties in the Luberon and the Alpilles are held for the following summer before the current one has ended. May, June, September, and October offer greater choice and are booked comfortably three to six months ahead.
Yes. The Only Provence concierge team and its local partners arranges private chefs, wine experiences, guided excursions, transfers, and celebrations directly, so that a single team holds the whole itinerary.
Seven nights, Saturday to Saturday, through the high season. Shorter stays can sometimes be arranged outside the summer months, and a Villa Rental Specialist will confirm what is possible for specific dates.
